City expansions: Why can I not place my Expansion?

The most common cause for not being able to place an Expansion is that you don't have the Coins required to place one of the Research-type City Expansions. Simply gather the required Coins via your Residences, performing Neighborly Help or Quests, and you will be able to place the Expansion!
