How do I build up my harbor?
The harbor is the area of your city which becomes available when you first enter the
Early Gothic Era.
From that point onward, you can use the bay next to your city to place harbor buildings. Your old port where you trade goods with other players becomes an integral part of your new harbor area, so you can also move it around, much like any other building.
The very first technology of the Early Gothic Era comes with several new buildings you can place - in addition to the already existing Goods Market (that being the old trading port) and the Harbormaster. You will find them under new categories in the construction menu:

Harbor Houses | Ships | Warehouses |
The purpose of the harbor houses is producing the currency of the current trading culture, as well as making special trading culture workers available to you, so you can send trading expeditions in the Sea Map.
| Shipyards produce ships (trading vessels) which you need to send trading expeditions in the Sea Map. Shipyards also repair them when they take damage during their journeys.
| Warehouses are necessary so that you can keep your traded Sea Map resources somewhere. Keep an eye on their capacity. |
As you progress through the Early Gothic Era and further, you will be able to place more and more buildings in the harbor. In order to do so, you will need harbor expansions:
