What is the Heritage Vault?

The Heritage Vault lets you turn old Evolution Tokens and Evolving Building levels into a single, upgradeable Heritage Building for that culture/theme - so your past events and every new Evolution Token keep paying off, even if you don't want to place their Evolving Buildings in the city.

Unlocking the Vault

The Heritage Vault becomes available in the Byzantine Era, once you research the Crossgroined Vault technology:
After that, a new Vault Entrance appears just outside your city grid - that's where you'll manage everything related to the Vault:

How it works

Pick a theme

Each cultures and tradition represented by an event, as well as the Pirate tradition, have their own Heritage theme inside the Vault. A theme only becomes available once you've earned at least one Evolution Token from that Heritage.
For example, to open the "X Marks the Spot" Heritage (Pirate tradition), you must have collected at least one Alliance Treasure Hunt Evolution Token - either the Pirate Fortress or the Treasure Wreck. To open the "Festival of Lights" (Thai culture), you must have collected at least one Evolution Token related to the Thai Event, such as the Shrine of Reflection or the Royal Temple.

Elevate the Heritage Building

Tap "Elevate" on a Heritage Buildings to spend Evolution Tokens or Evolving Buildings' levels from that same culture and level it up:
This exchange is permanent - once spent, Tokens and Building levels are gone for good, and if you use up all the levels of an Evolving Building, that building disappears entirely.
Each theme has one Heritage Building that can be leveled all the way up to level 60.

Choose the appearance

You can pick the Heritage Building's appearance from any of the Evolving Building designs you've unlocked for that culture:
Bigger appearances take up more space, so you can choose a design that fits how you like to build your city - a smaller, more efficient footprint will save you some real estate, while offering the exact same practical benefits. To change an appearance of a Heritage Building that is already placed in the city, you have to store it first.

Unlock effects at milestones

As your Heritage Building levels up, you'll unlock and upgrade new effect options for it. You can have multiple effects unlocked at once, but only a limited number can be active at the same time - you start with one active slot, and can unlock more by leveling up the Heritage:
Some specific slots need to be additionally unlocked with Age Up Kits or Gems. Some of them are only available for a limited time after which they lock up again:
You can switch which unlocked effects are active from within that screen, too. Switching has a skippable cooldown.
All productions an effects will become active as soon as you place the Heritage Building in the city.

The Vault Keeper

Each Heritage theme also has its own Vault Keeper, separate from the Elevate mechanic above. Instead of Evolution Tokens or level of Evolving Buildings, the Keeper trades for other resources, such as food, coins, orbs, blueprints, or resources from Allied Cultures:
Each Keeper's offers are different and refresh weekly.
Using the same offer repeatedly raises its cost - this resets weekly along with the offers themselves.
Accepting a Keeper's offer earns Keeper Reputation, which works like XP: as your Keeper levels up, it boosts the bonuses from your already-active effects in that Heritage theme.

Keeper rankings

There are also two rankings tied to your Keepers:
1. A per-theme ranking, showing the top 100 players and your own position for that specific Keeper.
2. A combined ranking, found in the main leaderboard view, showing the total Keeper Reputation across all of your Keepers.

Note: Keeper Reputation does not count toward your main city leaderboard score.
