GBG Trials: How Trial Difficulty Works
1. Overview: The Two Factors of Difficulty
In the updated Guild Battlegrounds, the challenge you face in any battle or negotiation is determined by two separate but interconnected factors:
- Trial Level: A set of difficulty modifiers chosen by you, the individual player, on a daily basis.
- Attrition Level: Your personal progression of difficulty within a Battleground. This functions as it always has, increasing with each encounter you complete and resetting daily.
Think of it this way:
Your personal Trial Level sets the baseline difficulty for your activity that day, and your personal
Attrition Level then builds upon that foundation.
2. Selecting and Changing Your Trial Level
You have full control over the Trial Level you wish to play on.
- Initial Selection: The first time you enter Guild Battlegrounds after the season started, you will be prompted to choose a Trial Level.
- Daily Adjustment: After your initial choice, you can select a new Trial Level at any time. The new level you choose will become active at the next daily reset (midnight server time, when attrition also resets).
This system allows for maximum flexibility. You can choose a higher trial when you plan to be very active, and a lower one on days when you have less time.
3. The Role of Your Trial Level
When you select a Trial Level, you are choosing a specific set of four modifiers that will be applied to every encounter
you face for that day. Higher Trial Levels apply more challenging modifiers.
These are the four Trial Modifiers:- Enemy Army Boost Modifier: A flat value that is added to the enemy army's attack and defense boosts.
- Enemy Army Boost Multiplier: A percentage multiplier that is applied to the enemy army's boosts.
- Enemy Critical Hit Chance: The base probability that an enemy unit will land a Critical Hit (dealing +150% damage).
- Negotiations Multiplier: A multiplier that increases the amount of goods and resources required to complete a negotiation.
4. The Role of Your Attrition Level
Attrition continues to work as it did previously. It is your personal difficulty escalator. Your attrition level determines the
base difficulty for your next encounter, which is then enhanced by the personal Trial Modifiers you have chosen for the day.
5. Calculating the Final Difficulty
The game combines the values from your chosen Trial Level and your current Attrition Level to produce the final challenge.
Total Enemy Army Boost (For Combat)Formula:
Total Enemy Army Boost = (Base Enemy Army Boost * Enemy Army Boost Multiplier) + Enemy Army Boost Modifier
- Base Enemy Army Boost: Determined by your current attrition level.
- Enemy Army Boost Multiplier & Modifier: Determined by your chosen Trial Level for the day.
Total Negotiation Difficulty (For Negotiations)Formula:
Total Negotiation Difficulty = Base Negotiation Difficulty * Negotiations Multiplier
- Base Negotiation Difficulty: Determined by your current attrition level.
- Negotiations Multiplier: Determined by your chosen Trial Level for the day.
6. Viewing Difficulty Modifiers In-Game
The game provides a clear, real-time breakdown of the difficulty. Before entering an encounter, you can access the
Trial Difficulty Modifiers dialog to see:
