What role does battling play in Rise of Cultures?

Battling in the game will have a crucial role in the expansion and growth of your culture.

First of all, the only place where you can obtain precious city expansions is the campaign map! If you want to increase your city's area, you need to progress through the campaign map.

Moreover, in-game quests will sometimes ask you to conquer specific territories:

 

As battling is the only way of progressing through the campaign map, it will allow you to meet new cultures and partner up with them after proving your military superiority.
