Morale

Morale is a world setting that helps smaller players by reducing an attacker’s effective combat strength when a larger player attacks.

General information

  • Morale is only active on worlds where this setting is enabled.
  • Morale has no effect on cities located on an island with an active world wonder.
  • Morale is not applied during sieges on conquest worlds.
  • Morale is not applied to ghost towns that are not under siege.
  • You can predict morale’s impact on a battle using the Simulator.

How Morale works

  1. Base calculation:
    [(Defender’s points / Attacker’s points) * 3 + 0.3] * 100
If the result is greater than 100, morale is capped at 100% (no effect).

  2. Minimum morale by defender’s city count:
Morale never drops below a floor that depends on how many cities the defender controls, up to a maximum floor of 80%.
1 city = 30% minimum morale (attacker fights at 30% strength)
    2 cities = 35%
    3 cities = 40%
    4 cities = 45%
    5 cities = 50%
    6 cities = 55%
    7 cities = 60%
    8 cities = 65%
    9 cities = 70%
    10 cities = 75%
11+ cities = 80% minimum morale (attacker fights at 80% strength)

In practice, the attacker’s effective strength is multiplied by the morale value. Morale is always between the applicable minimum (based on the defender’s city count) and 100%.
